        About the Midwives

        Picture
Rebecca Herman, CPM, MPH  - founder and primary midwife of  With Woman Midwifery.  I began my path to midwifery in 2003 and entered formal training in 2005.   After completing school through the National College of Midwifery and the Northern New Mexico Midwifery Center, I have worked within the US, in both New Mexico and Massachusetts, as well as in Senegal.  I discovered my love of midwifery while conducting nutrition research in Tanzania and continue to use a food based approach as the most straightforward way to manage many common complaints during the childbearing years.   I am deeply committed to empowering women to take charge of their own health and that of their babies.   Having grown up and worked in many countries I am fascinated by  the infinite ways people relate to and work with their bodies.   I believe that the transitions of childbearing are greatly eased when we listen to our bodies and love guiding women to hear  those messages.  I specialize in body integration techniques.  I also have expertise in working with women who are survivors of sexual abuse.   When I am not working I love to be outside and can often be found hiking, biking,  snowshoeing or dancing.

Sarafina Kennedy, CPM - midwife and frequent partner at With Woman Midwifery.    I firmly believe that women and families need to be supported in birth.  Improving women's experiences of birth and pregnancy is vital to giving women empowerment, and strength  through having control over their bodies, minds and physical situations.  What interests me most about supporting pregnant, birthing and postpartum women and their families is the opportunity to safeguard and enhance their entire experience throughout each of those three phases. I am interested in the opportunity to build relationships with women and learn about their lives and experiences in order to help give them the birth experience they want and deserve.  I am also interested in the hands-on aspect of midwifery work, using different skills and visualizations to help women manage pain, and teaching skills postpartum to help them grow healthy families.

Tara Kenny, CPM - midwife and frequent partner at With Woman Midwifery.   After deep interest and academic study of childbirth and women's health throughout college, I undertook an intensive midwifery program through the Northern New Mexico Midwifery Center.  There, I received comprehensive training on prenatal, postpartum and well-woman care through the National College of Midwifery.  Upon completion of the program in 2006, I became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). Since receiving my certification, I have traveled to work in birth centers in Australia, Belize, and Senegal.   I also became a Certified Lactation Counselor through The Healthy Children Project.   I am motivated by a strong belief that women and their families deserve compassionate and loving support throughout their childbearing years.  Whether working as a midwife, doula, or in other capacities, my goal is to help women to make empowered and educated choices about childbirth and to provide much needed support in welcoming a new child into their home.
